General Discussion Thread 26.03.25

What a night—I hope you got enough rest after that budget announcement. Needless to say, some of us may still need time to process the impact of these developments. We will be keeping the conversation going in the next few days, but we want to know what you think about the government’s new spending plan. Share your thoughts with us here. Nowadays, it’s even more crucial to stay on top of these looming changes that affect our day-to-day lives.

I was disappointed, seniors were not even mentioned in this budget. Unless we are able to fund ourselves or in current paid employment we don`t rate. We own our our home, but don`t have any superannuaton left, the current aged pension keeps us going. However the current aged pension is not going to keep senior`s who don`t have a nest egg afloat. My experience is that when you reach a certain age and not able to look after yourself financially, you become redundant. This also applies to anyone who is financially relying on centrelink benefits. This is a feature of Capitalism, unless you are fit, able, making money and taking care of yourself, you don`t have much status at all. Until seniors demand respect from all goverments this will not change. It is no use complaining about it or becoming bitter and twisted, we have to get together and say no, this is not acceptable, nothing is going to change. This is a great forum to band together as a group and lobby all goverment/s and let everone know we are demanding fairness and respect and a decent standard of living. How about the "SENIORS FIRST PARTY" it could be done! And please stop picking on each other, seniors need to be united! The LNP will not improve our situation.

I was just watching Sunrise and listening to Kochie talking about the budget. He made so many points that this budget will not help anyone who has a house loan as the government by giving the $150 rebate for electricity is actually stopping the RBA from giving interest rate cuts. This is because it reduces the inflation rate making it look better for the government but just doesn’t help those paying off their homes. Although we own our home I think more about our children and their home loans. Also, I believe it should be means tested as why should millionaires be getting it.

This budget has me very concerned! Lots of big spending which is so typical of Labor trying to buy votes. I feel for our kids as they will be paying our debt off for many years to come.

Yes, how disappointing this is. The meagre rise every fortnight to the Aged Pension will not even buy a cup of coffee !........The weekly $3.50 is an insult to all pensioners who spend their lives working and paying taxes etc.......I bet that the occasional adjustment to the politicians, salaries is much more !.........We are made to feel useless and a burden on the Government........all very sad........

They all do it!
Why us pensioners are the worst paid in the world yes that’s right we are other countries look after their pensioners but not Australia WHY this government will give millions to other countries tax’s payers money but not look after the pensioner.Jolly

Unfortunately the Coalition will do nothing other than cut Medicare. Will not support tax cuts, will not help Seniors, and if you think they will do anything constructive your dreaming. Inflation is a world wide problem. Spending and spending cuts favour no one and that's the reality. Hopefully, things will settle down in the next 12 months, with interest rate cuts, Medicare rebates continue, education and employment keep on the upper. Overall, a change of government now will only make things worse as proven time and time again. Be careful what you wish for.

I don't think this is a response able budget, our country's debt is out of control and needs to be addressed. There was nothing in there for small business and I hate to say it but I think they have to raise gst if only for a year to pay down our debt
