The Australian sporting and media landscapes are mourning the sudden loss of a familiar and beloved figure, Nathan Templeton, who passed away at the age of 44.

Templeton, a seasoned journalist known for his vibrant personality and deep passion for sports, was found in a park near the Barwon River on Tuesday, 8 April.

The circumstances surrounding his death pointed to a medical episode while he was walking his dog, and authorities have indicated that there is nothing suspicious about his passing.

Nathan Templeton's journey in the media spanned an impressive 25 years, a testament to his dedication and skill as a reporter.

His career took off in 2004 with his first significant on-air role at Ten News in Melbourne, and in 2012, he moved to Channel Seven.

It was here that he became a household name, covering several sporting events, including the Olympic and Commonwealth Games, tennis, and AFL.

His presence poolside at swimming events, engaging with Australia's athletes before and after their races, became a signature of his reporting style.

For six years, Templeton also served as a Melbourne correspondent for the Sunrise breakfast program, bringing his unique blend of knowledge and warmth to viewers each morning.

Although he had stepped back from an on-air role in 2022, his impact on the industry and the audiences he reached remained indelible.

The news of his untimely departure has left a void in the hearts of many, with his family expressing their profound grief in a statement: 'Our hearts are broken for an adoring father and a wonderful friend, who'll be missed by many.'

Tributes have poured in from all corners of the sporting and media worlds.

Ian Chesterman, the President of the Australian Olympic Committee, remembered Templeton fondly.

‘He loved his involvement at the Olympic Games and working with our Olympic sports and athletes at many events and activities,’ Chesterman said.

‘Nathan was always a friendly face, knowledgeable and totally fair. Many in the Olympic family will have a very heavy heart as Nathan was one of the really good people we got to work with who really cared about our athletes.’

The Sunrise team took to social media to express their sorrow, posting a message that read, 'Love you, Tempo.’

‘The tragic news of Nathan’s passing has left us all at Sunrise and Seven profoundly saddened.’

‘Nathan was a respected journalist whose passion for storytelling was evident in all his years reporting for Sunrise and several Olympic Games.’

‘Our deepest condolences go out to his family, loved ones and especially his two young sons during this difficult time.’

Stephen Quartermain, Templeton's former colleague at Channel 10, shared his disbelief and grief on social media.

‘Hard to comprehend Nathan Templeton is gone. So young, vibrant, talented, and cheeky. That’s how I'll remember him. Vale and rest in peace,’ Quartermain said.

Nathan Templeton's love for sports was not confined to his reporting.

He was also a supporter of the Geelong Cats' AFL team and served as a ground announcer and MC at Kardinia Park for six years.

Geelong CEO Steve Hocking recalled how Templeton's love for the Cats and football, combined with his knowledge, vibrancy, and energy, created a special connection with the fans.

‘He brought his love for the Cats and football to his matchday role and created a great connection with fans with his knowledge, vibrancy and energy,’ Hocking said.

I Really hope his medical episode wasn't caused by the MRNA for Covid. Way too young!
