Follow these clever, budget-friendly secrets to create a luxurious home without breaking the bank

Creating a luxurious home can be extremely expensive — unless you know a few clever cheats on how to make the most out of what you already have.

Luckily, a mum-of-two from Melbourne recently shared her top tips on how to achieve a more expensive home with minimal cost on her social media channels.

Melbourne-based mum-of-two and popular influencer Chantel Mila, otherwise known as Mama Mila to her 1.6 million social media followers, has revealed how she uses clever budget-friendly tricks to make her home look and feel high-end.

She advised everyone to pay close attention to details, offering budget-friendly ways to organise by aiming at carpets and cords and ensuring that your cups and plates shine.

Mama Mila's first trick involves freshening up those musty carpets.

According to Mama Mila, a few drops of essential oil on cotton balls will create a fresh, clean scent in your home.

Simply put a few drops of essential oil on cotton balls and scatter them across your carpets. Let the cotton balls sit for about 15 minutes to allow the scent to waft through your home, and then vacuum them up.

Not only will this leave your carpets smelling fresh, but the essential oil will also help deodorise your vacuum.

One social media user who saw her post asked if the cotton balls would clog the vacuum, but Mama Mila explained that she prevents this by ripping them up into smaller pieces.

Next, Mama Mila offered an excellent solution to tackling messy wires and cords that typically cause homes to look cluttered and disorganised.

She said to invest in some stick-on hooks, which can be found at your local hardware store, and use these to attach your plugs to the back of furniture or appliances. Hiding those wires and cords will make your space more streamlined and elegant.

‘This one is a favourite and can be used on your bedside, living room and even your kitchen to keep wire clutter under control,’ she explained in a video she uploaded to social media.

Mama Mila then shared an easy tip to get your dishwasher filter sparkling again.

She said: ‘Run it with a bowl of white vinegar to remove musty odours.’

According to her, running the dishwasher with vinegar will not only help clear out musty odours but also improve the cleanliness of your machine, leaving your dishes shining and spotless.

Many of her followers loved the advice and thanked her for sharing them.

‘I need to do all of these,’ one said.

‘Thanks for the dishwasher cleaning tip! Never thought to use white vinegar,’ another commented.

Another agreed and shared: ‘I like the dishes part.’

Someone else wrote: ‘Love these little tips.’

For further inspiration, Mama Mila has also shared her secret to creating a cosy and fluffy bed. She said to start by stripping the sheets and airing the mattress for an hour to deodorise it. Then, wash the bed linen with half a cup of bicarb soda to make the sheets come out softer and brighter.

Once the sheets are clean and dry, they are ready to go back on the bed. Mama Mila said to spray a light mist of water over the sheets and then tuck them in the bed to get rid of wrinkles without having to iron them out.

For pillows, Mama Mila advised that placing them in the dryer for five minutes with a tennis ball will ‘fluff them up instantly’. If you don’t have tennis balls, dryer balls will also do a great job of fluffing up the pillows.

Finally, she suggested adding a throw blanket under the duvet to give it extra height and make the bed look extra inviting.

Mama Mila’s fantastic home organisation suggestions were certainly appreciated among her followers.
