Flannelette Sheets

Remember when almost every bedroom had a set of striped flannelette sheets? Thick, soft, and warm as a cuppa by the fire. You can still buy them today, but some say they were thicker back then—better made, built for chilly Aussie winters. Climbing into bed felt like slipping into a warm hug. What other winter warmers do you miss from back then?

We’d love to read your nostalgic stories here!

Yes, when I was a kid, the whole family had flannelette sheets on their bed during winter. They definitely made things warmer and more cozy but you don’t see them being sold much any more.

Yes, as a kid we had the same coloured stripe flannelette sheets on all our beds. In summer we had the cotton versions of the striped sheets. When visiting my friends they all had the same sheets as us. I still have a set we found when clearing my mum's house still unused in its plastic - she always had spares hidden away.

They've always been available for me. Bought new ones this winter.

When we were young had flannelette sheets in different pastel colours (pink were my favourite). They were so warm. Even now we use the flanno sheets during a part of winter and they are still available at most larger retailers. In England when I was a young kid Mum used to wrap us in a small flanelette sheet over our pyjamas before we got into bed and we were toasty. No electric blankets then!

I also have some in their packaging, now I use the colourful ones a bit more up market . Call me a snob.

I have dolphins on mine today.
I have a few sets, used every winter.
