First mobile phone

Remember when the first mobile phone looked more like a brick than a gadget? Back in the day, it wasn’t just heavy; you had to lug around a battery pack, too! Before touchscreens and selfies, phones had tiny green screens, chunky buttons, and calls that sometimes crackled through the analogue airwaves.

My, how things have changed! From carrying 'the brick' to tapping sleek smartphones that fit in your pocket, it’s been quite the ride. Which mobile did you have first? And do you miss the old ones, or love the new tech? Share your memories below. We’d love to hear your first mobile story!

Our first phone was the brick and was quite weighty. My husband and I went to Newcastle race course and he had the brick sitting on his lap. In those days you weren't allowed to take phones on course(!) but the elderly security guard didn't stop us - I don't think he knew what it was!

very similar to the first video cameras, had to have a big heavy battery hanging off your shoulder

Number 1 was my first. I got it from the company I worked for as I spent a lot of time away from the office, managing building projects, including interstate.

My first mobile was No. 3, followed by 6, 8, 10, 14, and 15 from the selection above. Before mobiles, it was a pager for the office to contact me as I was out on the road visiting Clients. Calling the office was fun as I had to return calls from the old telephone boxes; some didn't work for reasons I'm sure we've all experienced at times.... back then. Mobile phones were a godsend back then for work, and now, well, it's a laptop in the palm of your hand. The only challenge is ensuring you have security for protection, as you would have on your laptop or computer, to deter scammers, cyber threats, phishing, etc... Even more so now, as the hackers couldn't give a hoot!!! And keep it up-to-date!
