First ANZAC Day March

The ANZAC Day march has always been the highlight of this significant day. The first march took place in Brisbane in 1916, as shown in this photo, where a large number of people gathered on the streets to witness soldiers on horseback.

The tradition of marches became popular with veterans in the 1920s, as a way to honour their fallen friends and express comradeship publicly.
