Fed up with limited storage? This $16 Kmart solution can open endless possibilities

A $16 buy from Kmart has sparked chaos online—but not for the reason you'd expect.

What was designed to be a humble waste bin is now being hailed as a must-have bathroom storage hack.

But not everyone agrees it's a brilliant idea...

Interior design influencer Dina Santos shared a clip online showing how she repurposed an 8-litre bin from Kmart—originally described as ‘a hygienic and user-friendly solution for everyday waste disposal’.

Instead of using it as a bin, she revealed she uses the container to store toilet paper rolls.

She also pointed out it could double as a place to stash laundry detergent or serve as an actual bin if needed.

The hack instantly caught the attention of viewers across social media, with hundreds jumping into the comments to thank her for the tip.

‘Thank you I’m off to get one tomorrow morning,’ one excited user wrote.

‘I bought this 2 hours ago,’ said another.

A third chimed in with: ‘I’ve been eyeing this off! Thanks for sharing.’

But not everyone was sold on the idea.

Some pointed out the obvious flaw in using a bin as storage—especially in shared or guest bathrooms.

‘It’s all good fun until a guest throws their wrapped-up old pad into the bin without realising,’ one user warned.

Another agreed, saying, ‘I thought the same thing TBH’.

Even Ms Santos admitted the design choice could be confusing, though she added it hasn’t caused any issues in her home.

‘Not at all, I have a cute small bin on the other side,’ she replied when asked if guests ever mistook the container for a regular rubbish bin.

One viewer wasn’t convinced the idea qualified as a real hack, writing, ‘Is that a hack though? Putting things inside a container…?’

Ms Santos, who is based in Brisbane, has built a loyal following for her savvy, affordable design tips.

Aside from Kmart finds, she often showcases outfit deals from discount stores like Target.

If you thought using a bin for toilet paper storage was clever, wait until you see what another shopper did with a cosmetic cabinet.

It’s a smart way to keep bathroom benches clear—but not everyone agrees it’s the safest idea.

Here’s how one simple trick turned into a heated online debate.

OMG! It's a container that this nitwit used to store stuff in. Some people have too much time on their hands IMO. Does SDC get a kickback from KMart for these useless articles?
