Fans honour Full Metal Jacket star's (69) life and legacy beyond Hollywood

The film industry mourns the loss of another talented actor who left his mark on and off-screen.

Hollywood star Kevyn Major Howard passed away last 14 February, which left his family and fans heartbroken.

Howard passed away at 69 years old with a legacy that transcended beyond the screens and touched many lives through his philanthropic efforts.

Kevyn Major Howard's family confirmed his passing through a statement.

'Kevyn was a loving family man who left a legacy that extends beyond his film career,' his family wrote.

'His efforts to advocate for remembering our fallen heroes and his ongoing support dedicated to our military, law enforcement, and those affected by the 9/11 attacks will live on through his foundation, Fueled By The Fallen.'

'His family wishes to continue his mission of remembering the seven forgotten words: "Yes, sir. No, sir. Please and thank you" for our aspiring youth.'

'He passed peacefully, holding his wife's hand on the international day of love.'

Kevyn Major Howard starred in Stanley Kubrick's seminal Vietnam War drama, Full Metal Jacket.

Howard's portrayal of Rafterman, the movie's earnest combat photographer, showcased his ability to bring depth and humanity to a role.

His character's journey provided a poignant commentary on the war and its impact on those who covered it.

Full Metal Jacket was released in 1987 and remained a touchstone for its unflinching look at conflicts and the psychological toll it could impose on soldiers.

Beyond Full Metal Jacket and its battlefield, Howard's acting career included appearances in popular television shows.

Kevyn Major Howard appeared in several TV classics, including Magnum, P.I., MacGyver, and Cagney and Lacey.

He also shared the screen with Clint Eastwood in the 1983 film Sudden Impact.

Despite his cinematic success, Kevyn Major Howard eventually stepped away from acting.

His last acting credit was in an episode of Crusade, which aired in 1999.

Howard later pursued a career as a headshot photographer, which helped other celebrities find their spotlight.

Matthew Modine, who played as Joker in Full Metal Jacket, paid a heartfelt tribute to Howard.

'Kevyn Major Howard gave and gave and gave so much to the world and especially the men and women of our armed forces,' Modine shared in a social media post.

'This led him on a decades-long journey to be in service of our nation's bravest.'

'Thank you for your dedication to others and America. May all the gods bless you, Kevyn. Rest in peace,' Modine concluded.
