Fact of the Day: Why does this herb taste like soap?​

Cilantro, the leaves of the coriander plant, is seen in various dishes. While this herb is delicious for most people, some people find cilantro revolting, or could taste like soap. It may come down to preference, but for a certain set of people, a group of olfactory-receptor genes lets them strongly perceive the soapy-flavoured aldehydes in cilantro leaves instead of its usual flavour.

Yuk! Sorry but I hate coriander and it does taste soapy no matter what you put it in.

I actually enjoy the taste of Coriander…I do not think it tastes anything like soap, and Yes I did have my mouth washed out quite a few times, as a rebellious teenager!!

I for one hate the taste of cinnamon!!

Don't have coriander in any form as i only have to brush past a plant and the red itchy rash appears. So I couldn't tell you what it tastes like.
