Fact of the Day: Pets can be allergic to humans
When we talk about allergies, the story usually goes one way: humans reacting to cat or dog dander. But science shows the reverse can be true. Some pets are sensitive to human dander—tiny skin cells we naturally shed. For them, it’s like living with a constant allergen source. Symptoms may show up as scratching, red patches, sneezing, or watery eyes.
Though rare, these reactions highlight just how interconnected we are with the animals we love. Our biology affects theirs, and vice versa. The good news? Just like people with pet allergies, furry friends with human allergies can often find relief with treatments, special diets, or a vet’s care.
