Fact of the Day: Fur real—cat names has fashion roots!

Cat pattern names might sound like they came straight from a fashion runway—and in a way, they did! Calico cats take their name from calico cloth, a colourful, patterned fabric first imported from India. Their tricoloured coats (white, orange, and black) reminded people of the textile’s patchy patterns.

Tuxedo
cats, on the other hand, got their name from their classy black-and-white 'formalwear' look—which is dervied from Tuxedo Park, New York. And tabby? That one’s old-school chic: it comes from tabis, a striped silk once woven in Baghdad’s Attabiy district. So, while these cats aren’t fashion designers, their names come straight out of the textile world. 🐾

But what about orange cats? 🍊 Watch here to find out!
