Fact of the Day: A controversial 'cure' for insomnia is raising concerns
In Shenyang, China, a controversial new method to beat insomnia is turning heads—and raising serious concerns. People have been spotted using neck harnesses to hang from metal bars, gently swinging back and forth in parks. This technique, created by a man named Sun Rongchun to ease his own cervical spine pain, is said to help relieve pressure on the neck and even improve sleep. Some describe it as a form of cervical spine traction, claiming it’s helped with everything from back pain to sleepless nights.
But here’s the twist—medical experts are warning this could be extremely dangerous. Neurosurgeons have pointed out that the neck isn't built to support full body weight this way, and doing so could cause nerve damage, stroke, or even death. In fact, Chinese media reported a tragic fatality linked to the practice just last year. So while some might report feeling better—possibly thanks to a placebo effect—doctors strongly advise against it.
