Extraordinary find: A gold hunter reveals 'rare' outback discovery!

For most people, a day spent galavanting around in the Australian outback would be reward enough. But for one lucky prospector, a recent expedition uncovered not one but two extraordinary finds.

Jordan Briane Seed, a gold hunter from Melbourne, is no stranger to prospecting. She has spent many satisfying hours searching for gold nuggets before but when she decided to head to Western Australia on an adventure with friends, little did she know how fortunate that decision would be.

The group headed to an area near Leonora, as it has been known to be the site of several gold rushes since the late 1800s and prospecting remains a popular hobby in the region today.

As Jordan described, she was digging a hole hoping to spot a glint of gold when suddenly a popped out. 'It scared the Jeebus out of me!' she said. At first glance she thought it might be an unusual rock, but soon realised this was a living lizard. And not just any lizard – the pebble mimic dragon, with its incredible camouflage abilities.

Pebble mimic dragons are only found in certain arid parts of Australia. Their flat round bodies blend seamlessly into the red dirt. 'They are just one of those real rare ones,' said wildlife expert Mathew Hampton, who has never spotted one himself. When threatened, the dragons freeze in place relying on their disguise to avoid predators.

Delighted by this lucky find, Jordan took the petite dragon back to show her friends, capturing a few photos before returning it safely to the spot she had found it. And that’s when her prospecting luck struck again. Right where she had discovered the rare lizard, she unearthed a large gold nugget!

'I couldn’t believe it! I knew this little guy was my new good luck charm,' Jordan said. High on her doubly successful day, she exclaimed 'I was on a roll after finding that lizard!'

So what advice does Jordan have for others hoping to try their hand at prospecting? First, she suggests starting close to home to learn the basics before venturing on a bigger trip. Get the proper equipment – a decent metal detector, digging tools, protective eyewear. Learn how to distinguish rocks from nuggets. And always follow regulations about where to prospect and how much gold you can collect.

Of course, bringing along a pebble mimic dragon mascot couldn’t hurt either! You never know what other surprises may be waiting in the Aussie outback. Just ask Jordan and her lucky lizard friend.

And don’t forget, safety is paramount when you’re out exploring. Be sure to do your research beforehand so you’re prepared, and don’t be afraid to rely on that trusty sixth sense – it could be the one that leads you straight to the gold!

It would be my luck to unearth a fossil of dinosaur poo.
Good karma for this prospector. Would have been amazing to see the rarely spotted lizard, then, good fortune smile upon her when she chose to return it to it's home.
