Extra plastic lids leftover from takeaway? Reuse them with this $2 item from Kmart!

We Aussies love our takeaway food. We may be biased but we think it's some of the best in the world.
Whether it's the simple pie at the footy, fish and chips at the beach, or even an ice cream while walking in the park, takeaway can be a nice treat in our routine. (Friday nights off cooking? Yes, please.)
If you're like us and also enjoy the occasional takeaway when you're outside or relaxing at home, we bet you also have a growing collection of the plastic containers they come with.
Most of these containers and lids are so durable and sturdy that it seems like a waste to just chuck them in the recycle bin. There's no harm in trying to get extra use out of everything, right?
Here, one savvy mum shares with us a nifty trick on how to reuse those generic round plastic lids that usually come with takeaway.

Sharing on a popular Facebook group, one mum revealed that the round lids from takeout food fit nicely on a range of children's bowls you can buy at Kmart.
'I don't know who needs to hear this, and I may be slow to the party,' she wrote in her post. 'Did you know the small round gravy/sauce/small Chinese food container lids (BS-20L for those who buy them) fit the kids' plastic bowls from Kmart?'
The mum showed how easy it was to put the lids on by showing several pictures of the bowls with food in them.
The colourful bowls come in a six-pack for the price of $2.00, which makes it a fantastic deal as they can also be used as storage containers. And if you don't have young children to pack lunches for at home, you can use these to store snacks and small meals instead!
Make sure to look closely the next time you order takeout to see whether any of the lids have 'BS-20L' printed on them so you can test the hack.
This advice was well-received by the members of the Facebook group, with many of them calling the idea 'brilliant' and 'genius'.
'Holy moly!!! You have just made my day. I hate plastic wrap,' one person wrote in the comments, with a second user adding, 'Now THIS is a hack!!!'
'This is such a game changer! Thanks for sharing,' a third chimed in.
A fourth person even added their own suggestion, saying that the lids from the large tubs of Greek yoghurt also work quite well for the same purpose. Another agreed and also mentioned that IKEA also has a product perfect for this use as well. 'Also, the sour cream (small tubs) lids fit the IKEA plastic cups!'

Here are more ways to reuse and recycle plastic containers and lids from takeaways:
- Takeout containers, especially rectangular or square ones, can be used again as drawer organisers. You can also use the lids, as long as they are deep enough.
- If you are very organised and like to make freezer meals or divide food into portions, reusing takeout containers to store food in the freezer is a great idea! Just make sure you don't microwave the plastic containers when it's time to eat, as many of them are not microwave-safe.
- If you like to garden, you can turn takeout containers into trays for starting seeds.
- Reusable takeaway containers with lids are great for storing little objects like charger cords, small toys, tools, accessories, office supplies, craft room storage, and more.
