Exposed: Celebrity chef uncovers the shocking secret behind restaurant 'specials'

Restaurant ‘specials’ often entice diners with promises of culinary delights beyond the regular menu. Yet, what if these offerings concealed more than they revealed?

Celebrity chef Manu Feildel peeled back layers of mystery surrounding restaurant specials to uncover a shocking truth that may leave diners rethinking their ordering choices.

On The Kyle and Jackie O Show this week, hosts Kyle Sandilands and Jackie 'O' Henderson engaged in a heated debate over what really drives restaurants to feature mysterious specials each day.

In particular, Jackie believed specials allowed chefs creative freedom, and Kyle was convinced it was all a ploy to get rid of ingredients before their best-by dates.

But when they called TV chef Manu Feildel, he set the record straight once and for all.

‘It depends where you go. If you go to the coffee shop on the corner, maybe they're trying to get rid of what's at the back of the fridge,’ the My Kitchen Rules host said.

‘But if you go to a restaurant, a special is a special.’

However, Kyle pressed the star chef further, drawing comparisons to discounted meats near their sell-by at supermarkets.

‘Isn't that the same as the old meat at Coles, the one that's gone grey with the "special" sticker?’

‘No, it's not special. But the price is special,’ Chef Manu replied.

The hosts then agreed they were technically both correct about the specials menu.

‘Well, thank you for the truth, Manu. So some restaurants are doing that as a business, but at the top end of town, reputation matters, and they're doing it as a creative outlet.’

'So we were both right,' said Jackie.

This report comes after one of the hosts, Jackie O, was suddenly rushed to the hospital during the show after experiencing some concerning symptoms that were indicative of a heart attack. You can read more about it here.

Key takeaways:

Who thought that they were going to get premium ingredients cheap. NOT me it's a no brainer that they are just going to get what the restaurant is getting rid of before it goes bad.
