Thursday night saw Channel 7’s biggest stars gather together to celebrate a major milestone.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and NSW Premier Chris Minns graced the event to formally declare the official opening of Channel 7’s new Eveleigh newsroom and studios.
First of the many presenters to share photos from the event was Edwina ‘Eddy’ Bartholomew, she shared a photo of herself with the prime minister as well as the ultimate lift selfie with Georgie Parker, Ray Meagher and James Stewart, 7NEWS presenters Michael Usher and Ann Sanders, Home and Away stars Emily Symons, publicist Jason Antill, and Eddy herself.
Moreover, Seven West Media Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer James Warburton, Chairman Kerry Stokes AC, NSW Minister for Roads and Minister for the Arts John Graham, and Federal Minister for the Environment and Water Tanya Plibersek were all in attendance to celebrate.
The star of The Morning Show, Kylie Gillies, also shared a glimpse of the behind-the-scenes action, posting snaps of the special moment on Instagram with the caption:
'Wow. What a night. Our new @channel7 studios opened by our Prime Minister Anthony Albanese THANKS FOR WATCHING EVERYONE.'
The post showed Kylie smiling alongside co-host Larry Emdur, Sonia Kruger, Michael Usher and Chris Brown.
Many were pleased to see the Channel 7 stars celebrating together.
‘Congratulations everyone on your new studio. Looking forward to watching many more of your shows there,’ one said.
‘How fabulous! Such a gorgeous mob you got there,’ another added.
A third said: ‘Congratulations legends!’
Prime Minster Albanese echoed this sentiment in his speech, which paid tribute to the network.
‘Seven has long been part of our shared story–entertaining us, informing us, creating shows that bring us together,’ he said.
‘They’ve shown how to adapt, how to innovate, how to look to the future and be ready for what’s coming.
‘The recent broadcasts of every Matildas game is an example. What a joy that was. What an amazing moment in Australian sport.
‘You did a great job at bringing it to all the millions of Australians who couldn’t squeeze into the stadiums.
‘Congratulations on the move into your new home. It’s impressive, and above all, it’s a clear demonstration that Seven is serious about staying at the heart of the Australian experience,’ he said.
NSW Premier Minns said: ‘I want to acknowledge the enormous investment that the Seven leadership has put into news, journalism and current affairs in New South Wales and Australia.
‘It’s the hallmark of a free and democratic country and these four walls will be a place where senior journalists mentor and train the next generation of cadets and journalists coming through. It’s an investment in the future of Australia and I want to thank Seven publicly for that.
‘Their investment in entertainment–using Australian actors, Australian accents and Australian stories is a way that young Australians in particular, can learn the story of Australia and not just something homogenised from overseas, particularly the United States.
‘It’s an investment in Australia’s story.’
While Seven’s Mr Warburton said: ‘This evening is more than simply the opening of a new studio. It’s proof–and a celebration–of our commitment to news and public affairs.’
‘We also want to acknowledge the Albanese Government’s commitment to legislate the prominence of local TV services on connected devices, to ensure that Australians can continue to easily find their local news services. It is critical to the ongoing sustainability of trusted and local news.’
After nearly two decades nestled in central Sydney's Martin Place, Seven’s new news and public affairs centre in Eveleigh signifies a transformative journey that the network has been on over the past couple of years. Boasting a whopping 40 sqm of LED screens (five times larger than their former location!), this world-class studio can now host permanent sets for all programs with two complete control rooms.
