Eagle-eyed shopper sends Coles fans into a frenzy after sharing MASSIVE MARKDOWNS on turkey products

As the holidays approach, many of us start thinking about all of the traditional foods that we'll be enjoying. For many Aussies, turkey is a holiday staple. Turkey is not only delicious, but it's also a relatively healthy option compared to some of the other holiday foods out there (pigs in blankets, anyone?).

One of the great things about turkey is that it can be cooked in a variety of ways. Whether you like it roasted, grilled, or even smoked, there's a way to prepare turkey that will suit your taste.

And, of course, there are endless possibilities when it comes to what you can do with leftovers.

Okay, we know it's probably too early to talk and think about the food that we will be serving for the upcoming holidays. But, did you know that a number of Turkey products, including whole poultry meat, are being marked down in some Coles stores?

An eagle-eyed shopper has taken to Facebook to share the massive price cuts on some Turkey items in her local Coles store in Spencer Street, Melbourne.

'Hope your freezer is ready,' the savvy customer wrote in a post on the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.

The bargain hunter also shared a photo of the Turkey products being displayed in the freezer, which were labelled with a $2 'special' tag.

The post has taken the attention of hundreds of group members, with many expressing their excitement for the massive markdown.

One user wrote: 'I'd buy it all and I wouldn't even be sorry.'

'I'm booking flights to Melbourne with extra baggage allowance,' another joked.

A third chimed in: 'We never get discounts like that. I'd be so happy if I saw that.'

'I’m so jealous at this very second.'

Others speculated that the products must've sold out quickly.

One person said: 'Bet they're all gone now.'

Another user who claimed to be from the area confirmed that there were no stocks left, writing: 'Yes, wandered down after work...all gone. Oh well.'

Some took the opportunity to explain why the turkey items were sold at a slashed price.

'Looks like someone’s got carried away with the stock,' they explained.

'They’ve sent in early for Christmas and put it straight to clearance.'

While Coles has yet to comment on this, retailers have a tendency to order supplies for the upcoming holidays to make sure they're properly stocked up when demand starts to spike.

It can be assumed that the turkey products that are marked down may be part of the holiday inventory that were in excess or were delivered early.

Regardless, who doesn't love turkey dishes? Even if it's not Christmas or New Year's Eve, turkey meat can be prepared for a delicious meal.

So, there you have it, folks! Be sure to keep an eye out for those 'holiday' items whenever you visit your local stores, you'll never know if they will be sold at a fraction of their price similar to what happened with the turkey products!

Barefoot Contessa’s Herb-Roasted Turkey Breast Recipe

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 whole bone-in turkey breast (about 3 kg)
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic (3 cloves)
  • 2 teaspoons dry mustard
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary leaves
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage leaves
  • 1 teaspoon chopped fresh thyme leaves
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons good olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 cup dry white wine

METHOD

1. Preheat the oven's temperature to 165C. Put the skin-side-up turkey breast on a rack in a roasting pan.

2. Make a paste using olive oil, garlic, mustard, herbs, salt, pepper, and lemon juice in a small bowl. With your fingers, carefully loosen the meat's skin, then spread half of the paste over the flesh. Apply the remaining paste evenly on the skin.

3. Pour the wine into the roasting pan's bottom.

4. Roast the turkey for 1 3/4 to 2 hours.

5. Once the skin is golden brown, place the instant-read thermometer into the thickest and meatiest parts of the breast and test the temperature of the meat. It should read 75 C. (NOTE: If the skin is overly browned, aluminium foil should be used to cover the breast loosely)

6. Once cooked, wrap the turkey in foil and let it sit at room temperature for 15 minutes to rest.

7. Slice the turkey, then serve it with the pan juices spooned over it.
