Drinking from the Garden Hose

Who remembers drinking straight from the garden hose on a hot summer day? Before aircon and fancy fans, cooling off meant filling a tub with water or taking a long, refreshing gulp straight from the tap. No one was worried about what was in the water! Who grew up doing this? Share your memories here.

Oh how I remember. It was just heaven. We had tank water and an old thunder box up the back yard when I was a kid. Our whole day was spent outside playing, apart from Mum calling us in for lunch etc. if we went inside any other time Mum would give us jobs to do. I’d love to see today’s kids do that.hahaha. We didn’t get a black and white TV until I was 12. Instead we listened to the radio every night.

Yes, I remember doing this in the backyard. It’s amazing how the water always tasted different coming straight out of the hose.

And funnily enough, that era had some of the most healthiest of people. Today's people are more sicker than ever - obesity, diabetes, heart disease, auto-immune. What went wrong? Was it the water?
