Cleaning and maintaining a home can be a daunting task, especially when it comes to tackling stubborn mould in the bathroom.
But what if there was a simple, homemade solution that not only eliminates mould but also prevents it from coming back?
Cleaning guru and mum-of-two Chantel Mila has shared her 15-minute trick that does just that!
In her video online, Mila's method involved creating a mould-killing concoction using two tablespoons of dish soap, hydrogen peroxide, and six to eight drops of tea tree oil.
She poured all the ingredients into a dish brush and scrubbed the grout in her bathroom.
'The dish brush makes cleaning so quick and easy, while the hydrogen peroxide and dish soap cut through tough grime and mould,' she explained.
But why is mould such a problem?
According to Better Health Victoria, mould is a fungus that thrives in damp and poorly ventilated areas. It can cause significant damage to surfaces it grows on.
If left untreated, it can lead to respiratory problems due to the allergens, irritants, and sometimes toxic substances it produces.
Common areas in the house prone to mould growth include the bathroom, kitchen, and laundry room.
To prevent mould growth, it's essential to reduce moisture and humidity levels by ventilating the room, using heat, insulation, and exhaust fans where available.
'The hydrogen peroxide helps whiten the tiles and get rid of tough mould in your shower,' Mila said.
'While the tea tree oil removes the mould spores and keeps them away.'
Mila's cleaning solution works wonders on grout, tiles, and your shower door seal.
She recommended scrubbing the solution everywhere and leaving it to soak for 15 minutes before rinsing it off.
If you don't have tea tree oil on hand, clove oil is a suitable substitute for ridding your home of mould.
However, Mila cautioned that it's essential to use discretion before using essential oils in homes with pets or small children, as some can be toxic.
