Discover this costly holiday spot people are talking about online!

The epitome of luxury and indulgence can sometimes carry a hefty price tag, and this reality has recently made waves in the realm of Australian holiday destinations.

Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, renowned for being a family-friendly staple in South East Queensland's Moreton Bay region, has seemingly pivoted its market by unveiling accommodation that's causing jaws to drop—not just for its stunning amenities, but also for the astonishing cost.

The resort, renowned for its powered campsites in high demand during popular holiday periods, has recently expanded its accommodation options.

Alongside its high-end glamping suites and cabins, Sandstone Point has now introduced three-bedroom overwater villas.

These villas, perched on a chemical-free, three-metre-deep swimming hole teeming with real fish, offer a unique and luxurious experience.

Each villa comes equipped with an indoor fireplace, BBQ, heated plunge pool, two deck spaces, and even its own paddle board and ladder for direct access to the swimming hole.

The excitement surrounding these new villas was palpable, with more than 23,000 people reportedly signing up for the booking waitlist.

However, the enthusiasm quickly turned to dismay when the resort revealed the price for a single night's stay: a staggering average of $999.

The price tag, which some visitors have claimed can rise to $1500 a night, has sparked outrage among the resort's traditional clientele.

Many have taken to the resort's social media page to express their disappointment, arguing that the new pricing is far from 'family-friendly'.

One visitor, Melissa, compared the cost to an overseas trip, stating, 'Can fly to Bali for seven nights for two people!!'

‘Sandstone used to be a cost-effective holiday destination, not so much anymore,’ another visitor named Michael added.

Alisa, a mum who had hoped to book a family stay at the resort, was shocked to find the rate quoted was even higher than the average.

‘Yesterday they had them up for $1500 a night! Either way, it’s wild!’ she posted. The mum said she instead booked her family on an overseas holiday.

‘I booked a week in Vanuatu at a resort. The total price, including flights, meals and activities was the same as a 3-day stay at the overwater villas at Sandstone Point.’

Another person was a fan of the place but has since chosen other budget options.

‘I’ve stayed at Sandstone Point once and loved it but when deciding where to go for our last school hols, thought about SP but ended up doing a cruise to the Pacific Islands for seven nights in a balcony room as it was cheaper than staying there. All meals included and had $400 on-board credit. Didn’t spend a cent. Pretty sad ‘cause it’s an awesome place.’

Another fan of the place also found the rate to be a staggering $1500 per night at her chosen time and was taken aback to discover there was a four-night minimum to stay.

‘Was definitely disappointed on the pricing,’ they wrote.

‘We were looking at five nights in Sept 2024, and it was $1500 per night. Unfortunately, way out of our budget. I thought maybe we could do just a night or two, but it had a four-night minimum for our dates.’

Others considered the price justifiable for the luxury facilities they have, and some managed to take a rate below $999 at off-peak seasons.

‘We are staying here right now for three nights over Xmas, upgraded from our original villa booking,’ one guest commented.

‘First ever guests to check in, and I can vouch that these overwater villas are incredible and worth every cent! Plenty of room for our family of five, our children’s ages range from eight-23yrs and they’re all loving it! There’s complete privacy from the other villas and the rest of the resort with the lagoon only available to the six villas. The Lagoon is gorgeous with waterfalls making it so serene. A piece of paradise. If I could share a pic of me enjoying my morning coffee on one of the comfy daybeds I would!’

‘Absolutely stunning villas,’ another gushed.

‘The stylist of these and this park should be very proud. The whole park is the best we’ve ever stayed at.’

‘We booked for our anniversary,’ another wrote.

‘We’re going in May. It was $1600 for two nights. It’s a bit expensive, but you only live once, right?’

In response to the controversy, a spokeswoman for Sandstone Point Holiday Resort stated that the rates for the overwater villas range from $799 to $1199 per night.

She defended the pricing, stating: 'Based on the valuable feedback from our recent guests, it's evident that our prices are fair and justified.'

‘We understand that our overwater villas may not be a fit for everyone…We strive to cater to various preferences and needs. These luxurious villas are crafted for those seeking the epitome of a high-end escape.’

As for when to take a night with affordable rates, the spokeswoman said the property’s most budget-friendly period was ‘midweek from May to August’.

While these luxury options can provide a unique and memorable holiday experience, they also come with a higher price tag.

However, it's important to note that many caravan parks still offer budget-friendly options alongside their luxury offerings.

Ultimately, the key to a successful holiday is to research and choose an accommodation option that suits your budget and preferences.

Whether you prefer the simplicity of a powered campsite or the luxury of an overwater villa, there's a holiday option out there for everyone.
