In the world of cleaning, speed and efficiency are often as prized as the end result: a sparkling, spotless home.
'Australia's Fastest Cleaner' has shared his secrets for those who'd rather not spend time bogged down by household chores.
Meet Jason Shipway, the 22-year-old cleaning sensation who has earned the title of 'Australia's Fastest Cleaner' and oversees a thriving business with more than 20 staff.
His passion for cleaning is so deep-rooted that his first word was 'mop', and now he's sharing his top strategies and beloved products to help you achieve a gleaming home in record time.
Jason's journey to becoming a cleaning prodigy began in his toddler years and has since blossomed into a successful enterprise, Enhanced Cleaning, based in Perth.
'I'm excited to now help others embrace a quicker clean…the challenge showed that everyone really has the ability to speed up their clean,' he said.
'You just need the right tools and tips to clean smarter and faster.'
His expertise was put to the test in VIVA's House of Spills Challenge in Sydney, where he emerged victorious, completing a 'cleaning torture test' in a mere two minutes and 14 seconds.
This feat involved tackling a grimy white display home with nothing but fast-absorbing paper towels, outpacing four competitors and securing his esteemed title.
The paper towel he used was actually a staple in his cleaning tool kit as it absorbed spills quickly.
'When wiping, start from the edges and work your way towards the center to help contain the spill and prevent it spreading further,' he said.
He also added that a quality vacuum and a trusty mop are must-haves when dealing with a filthy house.
Jason shared that a common mistake many make with paper towels is scrunching it.
'Cleaning with paper towel should be all about speed, the moment you start scrunching, it decreases the towel’s surface area, which reduces their ability to absorb liquids efficiently.'
'Lay a fast absorbing towel over the spill to contain it, and then simply wipe it up.'
Jason also shared using it as a 'polish'.
'A super interesting tip people don't consider is using paper towel to polish stainless steel,' Jason explained.
'Use a singular paper towel square and fold it up small. Grab a little bit of baby oil and use that to polish it up!'
Here are Jason’s other top tips for a sparkling home:
1. Strategic Cleaning Approach: Adopting a 'top to bottom, left to right' strategy can save time and prevent re-cleaning the same areas.
Start at the highest point in a room and work your way down, allowing gravity to help with the cleaning process. Moving from left to right keeps you focused and efficient.
2. Square Sectioning for Floors: When cleaning floors, Jason suggested dividing the room into squares to avoid going over the same spot multiple times.
This technique ensures you don't spread dirt and stains back over clean areas.
3. Embrace Bite-Sized Cleaning: Instead of one overwhelming cleaning session per week, Jason recommended tackling small tasks daily or every other day.
This approach prevents messes from accumulating and makes the overall cleaning process feel more manageable.
4. Don't Neglect the Skirting: Skirting boards are often overlooked. '
When I first step foot into a place, I can tell straight away they haven't had a professional cleaner come in because it's almost 100 per cent of the time,' Jason said.
'Grab that vacuum with a brush attachment to remove loose dust, paying particular attention to corners.'
5. Essential Cleaning Products: Jason's must-haves for a quick and effective clean include a multi-surface cleaner, fast-absorbing paper towels, a scrubbing brush, and vinegar.
These four key items can handle a wide range of cleaning tasks across various surfaces.
