'Holy smokes! Mate, we didn’t dig that far for no reason,' exclaimed Phillips upon revealing the nugget. 'Oh my God! You won’t need glasses for that – that’s all gold. I’ve never ever witnessed or seen or experienced something quite like this.'


The nugget, a breathtaking sight to behold, weighed in at 868.4 grams, or 30.632 ounces. While the exact sale price of this golden clump remains unknown, its value is undeniable. Based on the current gold price per ounce, which hovers around $3,000, the nugget's worth could easily reach $80,000. However, due to the rarity of such large nuggets, collectors and enthusiasts might be willing to pay a premium, potentially pushing its value into the six-figure range.

This isn't the first time the Golden Triangle region, encompassing Bendigo, Ballarat, and Wedderburn, has witnessed such a lucrative discovery. Just last year, another Aussie gold hunter found a nugget in the same area, which fetched an impressive $200,000. These finds not only highlight the rich potential that still exists in the Goldfields but also inspire many to consider the prospect of gold hunting as more than just a hobby.
