Discover the ‘luxe-for-less’ Kmart purchases of an interior designer
A trip to Kmart can be incredibly overwhelming. There seem to be endless choices, and it's also hard to know which pieces are worth adding to your shopping basket.
To help differentiate gems from junk, one interior designer has taken to social media to show us how to make the most of your trips to the discount chain store.
Sally Rodzen, a Sydney-based interior designer, recently let her followers take a 'virtual shopping trip’ with her.
First, Rutzen arrived at Kmart with a caption that boldly proclaimed: 'Come shopping with an interior designer at Kmart.’
What followed was a lesson in how to get the most bang for your buck when it comes to buying homewares from the store.
As she delved deeper into the retailer's inventory, Rutzen shared her picks: plates, platters, dinner settings, napkins, and candles in classic, timeless neutrals–pieces that she believes are worth the price tag.
The plates and bowls in the Abbey Dinner range quickly caught Rutzen's eye with a ‘Pottery Barn’ appeal, only for a $3.50 price tag.
According to Rutzen, the Oval Platter from the same line, which dropped in price to $14, is worth checking out. It can be used for just about everything–from a burrata salad during the summer to roasted potatoes during the winter months.
Apart from her Abbey range finds, Rutzen also revealed why the Beige Napkins from Kmart are also a worthy investment.
At $2.25 each, these napkins are a cheaper alternative if you're concerned about accidental wine spills at a dinner party.
Rutzen even noted that she often repurposes them as placemats, as a great way to jazz up a tablescape and make it look new.
Rutzen also shared her go-to secret for upcycling thrift items, suggesting that Kmart's Decor and Furniture Paint ($10) be used for giving old treasures a new lease of life.
Apart from those items, she also recommended Kmart’s Beige Contrast Edge Table Runner ($6.50), Stone Look Fragrant Candle ($14), and Glow Touch Table Lamp ($12).

So, while Kmart's range can be pretty daunting and overwhelming, this interior designer's experience shows that it pays to take a closer look when you know what you're looking for.
