Did Arnott's April Fool’s Day prank just create the most irresistible biscuit ever? Customers are begging for it to become a reality!

Love it or hate it, April Fool’s Day is an event like no other. Across the world, pranksters unite with a common goal: pull the wool over the eyes of their closest friends and family. However, not every prank is well-received by the ‘victims’ – some even go horribly wrong.

Case in point: Arnott’s April Fool’s Day prank caught everyone by surprise – and now customers won’t rest until the retailer gives in to their demands.

Arnott’s has received backlash from hundreds of customers following their April Fool’s Day prank.

In a post uploaded to their official Facebook page, the biscuit brand introduced the ‘Tim Tam Jatz’ and said it would be available across stores nationwide.

‘Indulge in this decadent sweet & salty treat,’ the post read.

‘With crisp layers of Jatz sandwiching the luscious, velvety Tim Tam cream centre, all covered in smooth Tim Tam chocolate. What more could you wish for?’

Arnott’s even uploaded a very realistic photo of the ‘new product’ to drive home the joke.

The fake product combines two beloved treats into one: sweet and chocolatey Tim Tams and savoury Jatz crackers.

‘The cheeseboard MVP, Jatz, is now draped in Tim Tam's decadent choc with a velvety cream centre for a luscious, sweet & salty treat,’ the announcement said.

The gag fooled some fans before they were disappointed after realising the offer was fake.

‘They may be just testing the waters by using April Fool’s Day. I reckon in a few months’ time, they will introduce this combo flavour,’ said one hopeful fan.

‘Pity it’s April Fools (which, of course, I fell for!) I would actually love these,’ another stated.

Another said: ‘I’ll see how it goes. I wish there is a sugar-free range.’

‘I know this is April Fool’s, but I’d eat them!’ Someone else replied.

The announcement attracted thousands of comments more, with many wishing the product was real.

Others immediately dubbed the fake advertisement the ‘biggest tease’, while some shared their eagerness to try the combination.

‘I know this is an April Fool’s [joke], but it would be a salty and sweet miracle,’ one commented.

Another eagerly replied that the flavour combination would ‘actually work’.

‘Ok, yes, April Fools…But this would be awesome.’

While another hyped-up fan commented: ‘I just sent this to my whole family, we were so excited about this collaboration. I AM HURT BY THIS MEAN JOKE.’

Someone else lamented that the worst part about April Fool’s Day is when brands come out with products that actually appeal to consumers. ‘All these companies pretending to bring out products I’ll never get to try,’ they added.

‘Even though this is only a joke, I would totally buy these. I remember the Jatz ice cream that came out, which was amazing,’ someone wrote.

Another wrote: ‘I'd prefer this over Vegemite hot cross buns... they should be an April Fool’s joke.’

Vegemite and hot cross buns were introduced in 2022 as an Easter treat. And, well, it was met with mixed reviews. One food critic gave it a go but said he didn’t really have ‘high hopes’ for it. He also described it as a ‘typical bread roll, but with a yeasty Vegemite taste’. You can read more about the ‘scathing’ review here.

Because of the intense reactions from customers, Arnott’s immediately posted an update on their Facebook page announcing a giveaway of the real product.

‘Tim Tam Jatz may not be real (forgive us), but the Tim Tam Genie has granted the most indulgent wish and created 2 packs of REAL, limited-edition Tim Tam Jatz. For your chance to WIN 1 of 2 limited-edition packs of Tim Tam Jatz: Tag your partner in crime – who is the Jatz to your Tim Tam?’ The announcement read.
