Dad's car wouldn't start and he had to bring mum back from the station coming back from work. She was working late on Christmas Eve.

My new bike was the only other transport available, at the time.

yeah a lot of us kids loved our bikes alright and to get a new one for Christmas like you and I did and so many other kids brought so much joy to us all.....hope that Mum got home ok with Dad on the bike, 'Dinking' was popular back then alright.

I never saw my dad get drunk in my entire life. He drank, but never more than two drinks per day.

Plus he would never endanger mum: never raised his voice or hand to her, always treated her with respect.
