We love to watch a good prank so long as it’s harmless and not disrespectful. After all, there’s nothing wrong with having a bit of light-hearted fun.
For the Sunrise crew, they wasted no time pranking TV host David Koch to celebrate his last day on-air.
On Thursday morning, in celebration of Kochie's final day on-air in 2022, the Sunrise crew managed to pull off an amusing prank on the 66-year-old while they were live.
The breakfast show's team of producers, cameramen and sound operators all donned bald caps to imitate the look that Kochie has become so well-known for over the years.
However, the staff's hilarious antics went virtually unnoticed by Kochie and his co-host Natalie Barr, who hosts the show alongside the veteran journalist.
In a video posted on TikTok, the staff can be seen wearing skin-toned rubbery caps as they said they wanted to 'make Kochie laugh before he goes on holiday’. The crew continued to do their jobs while waiting for either of the hosts to notice the prank.
Nat was the first one to notice the team members sporting identical rubbery caps, but looked confused as to the reason why.
Mark Beretta walks into the set and immediately bursts into laughter upon seeing the team’s costume.
‘Beretts gets it straight away!’ The crew noted this in the video. Kochie, who had noticed the gag but seemed to be confused, asked Nat: ‘Why have they got those on?’
Nat just shook her head at him and admitted that she didn’t know why.
‘I don’t understand,’ she shared.
‘I’ve seen it all,’ Mark said as he sat beside Kochie. While all the hosts were getting ready to go on-air again, newsreader Monique Wright approached the desk to sit beside Nat.
Nat immediately asked Mon why the crew had bald caps on, and Monique simply responded with ‘You’, referring to Kochie.
‘Oh! They’re supposed to be you!’ Nat said while she cracked up laughing. Kochie shook his head and remarked: ‘You’re all looking very handsome.’
While he looked calm on the outside, it was clear that the prank affected Kochie, as he proceeded to mix up his days while greeting the viewers.
‘Welcome to Friday,’ he said and was quickly corrected by his co-hosts.
Fans of the hosts quickly commented on the prank on Sunrise’s official social media page.
‘So good you can have fun at work,’ one said.
Another added: ‘Everyone just got 10x hotter.’
‘Bit slow there,’ someone else quipped.
‘I think that should be the dress code because it looks amazing,’ a fourth suggested.
