Daimler issues mass recall of Mercedes-Benz cars, warns owners of possible diesel engine leak

A subsidiary company of Daimler, better known to us as Mercedes-Benz, has informed several of its customers to be wary of the technical defect that could lead to possible leakage in the luxury vehicle’s coolant pump, and that “a risk of a fire could not be ruled out”.

It was reported that more than 800,000 units released worldwide are affected. Though, the German company has not yet released an exact figure.

The recall had been initially published in November; however, due to the unavailability of parts and relevant software needed to fix the affected area, the replacement was only scheduled to start in mid to late January.

In a statement released to Mercedes-Benz owners, Daimler said: “In the meantime, the affected vehicle should be driven in a particularly prudent manner and usage reduced to the bare minimum.”

“The owner of a vehicle affected by a recall should always contact the nearest Mercedes-Benz service partner immediately.”

Daimler has confirmed that the affected models are certain GLE/GLS (167 platform), C-Class (205 platform), E-Class (213 platform), S-Class (222 platform), S-Class (223 platform), E-Class Coupe/Convertible (238 platform), GLC (253 platform), CLS (257 platform) and G-Class (463 platform).

While repairs are scheduled for early this year, this will depend on the release of relevant software updates and part availability. If you drive an affected model, we advise that you book it in before the rush.

How can you use "Mercedes Benz" and "popular models" in the same sentence? I can think of several makers and models that would be popular and Mercedes doesn't come close. I don't think anyone I know has ever owned one.

This just goes to show that even high-end luxury vehicles are not immune to technical problems. It's important to stay on top of any recalls or warnings from the manufacturer to ensure your safety and the longevity of your car. Speaking of car maintenance, I recently used a great service for DPF cleaning for my engine at www.30minutedpfclean.com. It really made a difference in the performance of my car and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to improve their engine's efficiency.
