Hi all, my name is Angus. Ex Bank Manager, ex yachty, and grey nomad, now settled in rural Queensland in the Hervey Bay/Maryborough area trying to conquer the golf course, and get my little house more comfortable.
I spent about 20 years on yachts from a 14' catamaran to a 42' keelboat sailing up and down the Queensland coast. Sold the yacht in 2005, bought a motorhome and spent the next 12 years cruising the highways and byways of Australia. Current interests are golf, fixing up my house and garden and I guess looking out for the next adventure.

Hello, @Cruizinoz ! That sounds awesome, wow. Thank you for this wonderful introduction! WELCOME TO THE FORUM 🥳

What's the best part about cruising? I've never been on a yacht and I'm curious!

Welcome Angus! Wow that's a huge change in lifestyle to go from being a bank manager to travelling all the time. You must have adjusted well though if you carried on for so long. Do you miss travelling or are you happy to be settled in your home now?

Thanks Xe. I had a breakdown in the Bank, so the decision to change my lifestyle was sort of made for me and bobbing about on the Pacific was excellent therapy. I still had a caravan up until last year but too many people on the road these days so I'm going with the flow again. Nice and peaceful here hand feeding kookaburra's, magpies etc. But I never say never!!!

Hi Sethia,
I guess the best part of sailing is the achievement of harnessing nature to get where you want to go in the peace and quiet of the breeze. Unfortunately the sailing photo's you see on ads, sitting in the sun with full sails and sipping champagne etc. only happen on very odd occasions. There is a saying that yachting is akin to sitting under a cold shower ripping up $50 notes. At times it's not far from the truth. Glad I did it, but over that stage of life now.

I'm sorry to hear that! But I know exactly what that feels like. I'm not the kind of person who can do the same thing over and over and remain content which is why I had to leave my previous job in insurance - and I was only there 5 years.

It's crazy to me how people can make their entire lives about work though. I was watching RoboCop for the first time the other day and I was totally horrified that when things were going wrong with the company, people were resorting to suicide. Not sure if you've seen the film but I honestly assume every man has haha.

Hi, and I’m surprised by how much you managed to change your life. Sometimes I think there’s no way out of this 5/7 pattern. I’ve just graduated, and I got my first serious job. And I already start to feel that I have no time and no mental capacity for any personal endeavor. Everything’s taken by the job that I have to do to make a living. I’m horrified by the thought that I will have to spend the rest of my life like this.
I hope that one day I will be decisive enough to let it all go and just go an Ibiza boat hire to get a boat and start sailing in the Mediterranean sea. That sounds like something I would love since I like solitude and don’t have a partner.
