Crimplene dresses

Members, do you remember these crimplene dresses from the ‘60s? They were all the rage back then because they always maintained a wrinkle-free look and were indestructible, unlike the fabric nowadays.

I had a white crimplene trouser suit for my going away outfit after our wedding. That and my wedding dress were both designed and made by a local lady who used to be a designer for Norman Hartnell.

I made a blue crimplene dress and coat ensemble to wear for my 21st birthday. My parents took my fiancé, my sister, my future in-laws and my great aunt and uncle and myself out to dinner and a show (My Fair Lady) on my birthday which conveniently fell on a Saturday night then backed it up with a surprise party with lots of friends and relatives the next night. I felt very special and very spoilt.

Yes and it was a very hot synthetic fabric for our climate. I also recall men wearing crimplene shirts. The big selling point was it didn't need ironing!

My mum had a few crimplene fashion items in her wardrobe and the big thing was that it didn't need ironing as did everything else back then. The colours were quiet vibrant from memory.
