Credit cards when you are retired

I'm currently trying to get a credit card and having no luck as I am retired and my only income is a Super pension (which for the purposes of applying for a cc is not considered to be income).
I have provided a Super statement & screen shots of my pension payments & current balances but to no avail.
Ideally I would like one which doesn't have an annual fee as it is for emergencies really.
I currently I have a secondary card on my partner's card but want to get my own - it's forward planning. Don't want to be left alone without a credit card.
Has anyone out there managed to apply successfully? I would appreiate any advice you can offer.
Thanks 😊

Usually their criteria is that you need to be working or own a business.

I still have my CC which I had while working but I have since decreased the limit from $10,000 to $1000.

I was going to say maybe you were asking for a too high of a limit.

I only use my credit card to pay bills ect but pay it off straight away.

You really need to becareful not to go over your head

Years ago I was trying to get 1000 for my daughter's surgery, no one would look at me so ended up going through a finance company which cost a little more. After it was paid off successfully they offered a credit card, which I accepted, but never ended up registering, must have been around 2004ish!! Have never used a credit card, all bills are paid via a bank account that I deposit into fortnightly, and if anything desperate comes up I either do without, pay off or my kids help out with loans that I pay back weekly.

I have a normal credit card and a debit card. I very seldom use a credit card as I transfer fund from my normal bank a/c to my debit card and pay with that. I keep the credit card just in case I see something and have not transferred enough into my debit card.

If you are female that is the reason. I once tried to get a small loan to buy a car but was refused as my male partner was classed as the financial provider & his name would have to be on the loan . We worked at the same place, did the same job & earnt the same money. I had the cash in the bank to pay for the car but just wanted my identity back but was refused. I actually asked the nice lady whom I was dealing with if the refusal was because I didn't have a penis? She nearly fell off her chair from laughter.

I walked into the CBA one day and applied and received one for $12,000, the same day.
I have one as a secondary person on hubby's card but wanted my own as an emergency one in case of ?? No income other than the pension and reasonable amount in an account (not with CBA) for household expenses like fridge, new car, or other expenses. We don't use our credit cards, only there as an emergency.

No, I am female and had no trouble getting one.

Finally success!
Was declined twice by Coles Mastercard but had my case escalated & my application was approved.
It paid to be persistant and explain my situation.
I was going to say try Coles, I got one a few years ago without working, but I never picked it up, I know what i'm like and would have been put in a bind with it.
