Crafty mum makes a “high-end” bread bag using budget buys from Kmart – here’s how she did it!

There are several reasons why having a reusable bread bag is so much better than storing your bread in plastic.

First, bread bags that are made from fabric can prevent the bread from drying out. They absorb extra moisture in the air, which can prevent mould from forming.

Second, they’re much better for the environment than single-use plastic bags. Plus, you can always take them with you anywhere, any time – whether you’re going to the supermarket or your local baker.

Third, they make a lovely gift idea, just couple the bag with a freshly baked loaf of bread and some homemade pesto or jam. We’re sure the recipient will feel well-loved and appreciated.

And finally, they just look so good! Very ‘French’ even if you’re not using them to store bread, they look great as home decor!

So do you have a bread bag at home already, members?

If you don’t have one yet, worry not because one mum is sharing with us how she made her ‘high-end’ bread bag using only a few items from Kmart!

Sharing on Facebook, Zoki from Melbourne revealed how she made a French bread bag from scratch using a few materials she picked up from the retail store.

And here’s how she did it:

First, hem the top of each fabric piece by folding about half an inch and stitching them. Then sew three of the four edges of the material napkins together.

Once the bag is closed at the edges, thread the macrame cord at the top to create a drawstring.

Now all that’s left is to decorate your bread bag!

Zoki used an old stamp she found lying around her home and dabbed it into ink then pressed it onto the material. Now, we understand not everyone might have a stamp just lying around at home, but you can get creative with a little bit of spray paint or even leave the bag as it is!

And voila! Her French bread bag is done.

And while this is not exactly a bread bag, this video below can guide you on how to make a drawstring bag out of two pieces of fabric.
