Cracker classic gets a makeover—what’s changing after 70 years?

Change is a constant, even for the most familiar and cherished traditions.

An iconic Aussie favourite, known and loved for decades, is about to experience a transformation that promises to surprise and delight.

What led to this bold move, and how will it impact its loyal fans?

Arnott’s prepared to introduce a new addition to its iconic range, unveiling Jatz Minis in two flavours from early February.

The bite-sized version of the beloved Aussie cracker was oven-baked, crispy, and lightly salted, designed to please a crowd.

Available in sea salt and cheese and garlic flavours, the crackers were crafted using 100 per cent Australian-sourced wheat from local farmers, with no artificial colours or flavours.

The product was set to retail at $4, with shoppers able to find it at Coles and independent retailers nationwide.

Marco Maiese, Marketing Manager for Arnott's Crackers & Crispbread, said: ‘Creating a brand-new mini range of Australia’s favourite cracker in two great flavours highlights Arnott’s constant exploration for ways to innovate and excite Aussies.

‘Arnott’s Jatz is more than 70 years old and continues to be a well-loved pantry staple. With this exciting addition, we hope even more Aussies will be grabbing a box to enjoy themselves or share with friends at their next entertaining occasion.’

Jatz had long been a popular choice among Australians, making the launch of Jatz Minis a likely hit with snack enthusiasts.

Last year, Arnott’s sold over 300 million packets of goods across its 134 varieties of biscuits and crackers.

The company revealed that 2.8 million Australian households purchased their favourite chocolate biscuit, the Tim Tam, in 2024, which also marked its 60th anniversary.

The original Tim Tam retained its crown as Australia’s favourite biscuit, topping the list for the second year in a row.

In 2022, Jatz was favoured in nearly every state, but the nation’s love of sweet treats placed Tim Tams back in the lead.

Despite their popularity, Tim Tams faced criticism over increasing prices, with some calling them ‘un-Australian’ and ‘outrageous’.

In early 2024, a packet of Tim Tams reportedly cost $11.70 at a petrol station in Kalumburu, far north Western Australia.
