Local councils across Australia have been scored by their own ratepayers—yet only one regional city claimed the top spot.
The results revealed a surprising winner, proving that smaller cities can sometimes outperform the big names.
And while some communities celebrated their council’s efforts, others were left at the bottom of the rankings.
Smart city tech platform Snap Send Solve released its latest community satisfaction report, analysing more than 13,700 survey responses and ratings from about 70,000 users.
The data, collected from incident reports, reflected how residents felt about their councils across key services including roads, parking, waste management and graffiti.
The City of Mandurah in Western Australia was ranked number one in the country, receiving a score of 67.4 per cent.
Closely behind was the City of Port Adelaide Enfield in South Australia, which scored 67 per cent.
Whitehorse, located in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, followed in third place with a score of 66.8 per cent.
By comparison, several New South Wales councils fell to the bottom of the list, with ratings hovering around 60 per cent.
The national average was calculated at 61 per cent, showing a clear divide between top-performing and struggling councils.
Melbourne City Council was the only major metropolitan council to secure a place in the top 20 list.
The report also highlighted how councils are benefiting from the Snap Send Solve app, which allows residents to photograph and report issues in real-time.
Problems such as potholes, cracked footpaths, overflowing bins and overhanging trees could all be logged instantly.
The system also reduced duplicate reports, saving money on labour and operational costs.
Glen Eira City Council in Victoria reported it avoided $88,000 in potential duplicate reports by using the technology.
Snap Send Solve said this not only cut unnecessary contractor fees but also streamlined council services for ratepayers.
Local councils aren’t just being ranked on performance—they’re also introducing new measures that can directly affect households.
One recent initiative focused on reducing upfront costs tied to housing and local infrastructure.
It’s another example of how council decisions can have a big impact on everyday budgets.
