Could you be the next millionaire? Here's how one Aussie won $30m in the latest Lotto draw!
Playing the lottery is a favourite pastime for many Aussies, with people aged 54 to 64 years old being the top buyers of lottery and scratch tickets.
But how likely is it to hit the jackpot?
Well, as the saying goes, picking the right six numbers in a lottery is like finding a needle in a haystack—believe it or not, we're more likely to be struck by lightning in our lifetimes!
Defying the odds, one lucky Aussie managed to win the latest $30 million Lotto draw. His ticket was the sole division one winner across the country.
A man from northern Sydney was revealed as the sole division one winner, scoring the entire $30 million jackpot.
The ticket was purchased at Lindfield Newsagency, located on the Upper North Shore.
Upon being informed of his substantial winnings by a representative from The Lott on Thursday morning, the winner from Killara was overwhelmed by the enormity of his prize.
The recent millionaire hinted at the possibility of an early retirement.
‘I had plans to continue to travel for work, but this prize has changed everything for me,’ he said.
‘I’ve been in and out of the country for work, and I’m so happy to be back home in Australia.’
‘I honestly think I might just stay here and retire.’
The numbers drawn on Tuesday evening were 21, 23, 18, 39, 14, 33, and 46, with the additional numbers being 37, 41, and 28.
This isn't the first time Lindfield Newsagency has sold a top-prize ticket.
Constantine Mastrantonas, Lindfield Newsagency owner, was amazed that he helped another local customer win big.
‘The last division one winning entry we sold was in a draw many years ago, and it was worth $1 million,’ he said.
‘I had the pleasure of talking to the winner recently after he discovered the win, and I couldn’t be happier for him.’
The jackpot from Tuesday's draw is impressive, but it doesn't match the biggest lottery win of the year.
Back in June, a fortunate dad from Bankstown won a whopping $100m, claiming the entire Powerball jackpot.
Surprisingly, the man said he'd stick to his regular routine of waking up and heading to work, though he did mention plans to buy a luxurious home for his family.
Earlier this month, a woman from Daylesford, Victoria, who bagged $60m, received a commendation for announcing her intent to donate a significant portion of her windfall to charity.
As for Tuesday's lucky ticket holder, only time will tell what they'll do with their prize once they grasp the scale of their luck.
