Could this cruise line be sinking? Aussie woman’s review goes viral

A recent viral video has stirred up serious debate, with one Aussie woman’s experience on a popular cruise sparking outrage.

What was meant to be a relaxing getaway turned into a nightmare that has left many questioning the quality of service offered.

As more details emerge, the incident is raising red flags about the future of this well-known cruise line.

Emma Metzger, a 28-year-old influencer with 200,000 followers on social media, recently took to social media to voice her disappointment with one of Australia’s most well-known cruise lines, P&O Cruises.

Ms Metzger, who admitted her love for cruises and having sailed on several before, claimed that her eight-day trip on board the Pacific Encounter was a letdown.

She explained that this was her first time sailing with P&O, after choosing them over her usual option, Princess Cruises.

Unfortunately, her New Year’s voyage left her with a bitter taste, which she didn’t hesitate to share.

In a video viewed 170,000 times, she described the experience as ‘abysmal,’ adding: ‘That’s the only word I can use.’

The trip, which took her through the Pacific Islands, did not live up to the influencer's expectations, particularly when it came to the food.

Ms Metzger said: ‘Most of my meals were inedible,’ and even shared a moment where she had to spit out food, calling it a ‘cliché experience’ she'd never had before.

She questioned if the upcoming merger with Carnival Cruises was to blame for the subpar experience, saying: ‘I can’t tell if the experience we had is because they [P&O] won’t exist, or if they’re about to not exist because that’s the common experience [for passengers].’

Despite P&O being known as the more affordable option for cruises, Ms Metzger felt that it shouldn’t come at the cost of quality.

She also pointed out that many of the on-board shows required extra payment, calling it a ‘joke,’ and claimed that ‘half the activities didn’t happen.’

P&O Cruises Australia, which recently announced it would be merging with Carnival Cruises, will cease to operate under its own brand come March 2025.

The Pacific Encounter and Pacific Adventure ships will continue to sail under the Carnival name, but the Pacific Explorer will no longer operate in Australian waters.

In response to Ms Metzger’s criticism, a P&O spokesperson defended the staff and their efforts, saying, ‘Our kitchens prepare meals for 3,000 guests every day, and we are sorry if this guest feels her dining experience fell short of her expectations.’

The spokesperson also clarified that the complaints were never raised during Ms Metzger’s time aboard and acknowledged that most of the P&O staff would remain employed as the ships transitioned to the Carnival fleet.

‘Our crews will always work hard to address issues, when the issues are raised on-board,’ the statement read.
