Cool place in Kitchen
In 1939 when my parents and I move into a new house we had an "ice chest". It was a large piece of furniture with four legs and lid which when lifted exposed three compartments with metal inserts, each being about 300mm square and about 450mm deep. The middle one was where the block of ice went, and the two outer ones was where the food went. Many years later I restored a house in Leichhardt, Sydney that was over 100 years old and it had a small 'room" in the kitchen with that perforated tin on two sides. It was kept as a pantry in the restoration.
