Confessions from a Macca's Employee: Find Out These 'Rude' Customer Habits

We know just how important good customer service is. After all, no one should ever have to put up with rudeness or bad behaviour – particularly from a customer. However, a Macca’s worker has come forward to share her sentiments online about rude customer habits.

In a tirade illustrated by a series of recently circulated Facebook posts, the young woman said, 'One thing that annoys me as a Macca's worker is how RUDE people can be,' she wrote. 'If you’re ordering through the drive-thru, how hard is it to have basic manners?'.

The frustrated employee also asked customers to 'just have some basic human decency' and throw away their garbage after finishing their meal.

The cashier also asked: 'Is it THAT hard to not yell at Macca's drive-thru people or front counter workers over a mistake with how your food is made?' she asked. 'If you treat the workers with respect, you'll get respect in return. So instead of getting all aggressive, ask for another and explain your problem'.

Sadly, Macca's staff members throughout Australia and the world face similar struggles with unruly customer behaviour. In the last few months alone, employees have spoken out on a number of occasions – such as during a horrifying attack by a group of teenagers in a Melbourne store and a messy late-night revellers in the same city.

In response, Macca's has partnered with Sonder, a wellbeing platform, to offer staff access to specialist help, such as nurses, psychologists and safety support, as well as a range of other wellbeing resources.

Seeing as their staff are mostly young people aged between 18 and 24 – meaning they're statistically more likely to suffer from stress, exhaustion and acute mental health than the general population – Macca's believe they have a responsibility to look after their workers in any way they can.

We know that sometimes things don't go as planned in fast-food stores, such as orders being forgotten or incorrect, which can be frustrating. However, we also know that wait staff aren't superhuman, and they deserve to be treated with respect and kindness, no matter what.

Of course, the majority of customers are polite. But next time you visit Macca's, consider being extra patient with staff. Small gestures can make young employees' stressful jobs a little brighter.
