The world of college basketball is no stranger to high-profile spectators, but it's not every day that a player interacts with a Hollywood legend during a game.
That's exactly what happened when Auburn University (Auburn) forward Johni Broome found himself face-to-face with none other than Morgan Freeman.
The incident occurred during a heated match between the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) and Auburn in the US National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
Freeman, a big Ole Miss fan, was enjoying the game from his courtside seat when the action got a little too close for comfort.
In a bid to save a ball from going out of bounds, Broome found himself in the spectator's area.
Feeling a tug on his jersey, he instinctively slapped the hand away while intense at the moment, only to realise that the 'intruder' was none other than the Academy Award-winning actor.
'I kind of got his hand off,' Broome said in a post-game interview. 'I saw who it was, and I’m a big movie guy. I probably watched one of his movies on the plane coming here.'
Realising his faux pas, Broome quickly apologised to Freeman, who took the incident in stride.
'I realised it was him, and I was like, “Oh my gosh, I’m a big fan. I’m sorry.” He said, “Just keep playing.”’
During a break in the game, Broome took the opportunity to apologise again.
‘I’m just like, “I’m sorry again,”’ he explained.
Freeman's response was as cool as expected from the man who played God in Bruce Almighty. He also starred in films like The Shawshank Redemption and Million Dollar Baby.
'He said, “You all good. Just keep playing.” He’s a very good guy. Love him,’ Broome added.
Despite the unexpected interaction, Broome had an impressive game, scoring 15 points, grabbing nine rebounds, dishing out seven assists, and making three blocks.
The game ended with Auburn improving their record to 18-4, while Ole Miss fell to the same record.
