We all love a good deal, and finding massive markdowns on items we want is like hitting the jackpot. But is it really just luck, or is there more to it?
It turns out that finding these deals is a mixture of timing and luck.
And as for one shopper, it must have been her lucky day when she went out to shop at her local Coles store just before it closed to nab some items, but ended up scoring so much more at a fraction of their original prices.
A Facebook user recently posted about their lucky find at the supermarket – scoring $122.71 worth of groceries for just $21.15.
The shopper said they had called into the store to grab a few items for burgers when they noticed that the staff were marking down a bunch of other items.
They decided to take advantage of the situation and ended up getting a whole lot of food for a very reasonable price.

'Talk about right place at the right time tonight!' the customer wrote on a post in the Markdown Addicts Australia Facebook group.
'Yes, I took the lot. The guy that was marking them all down actually put them in my trolley and said, "look if you don't take it and it doesn't sell, it will just end up in the bin".'
'Obviously, I couldn't leave them!'
Many group members were stunned by the shopper's excellent timing, with some praising her for her 'amazing score'.
One user exclaimed: 'I would have taken the lot too!'
'Wow! That's awesome!' another agreed.
A third praised: 'Well done.'

The post also captured the attention of one Coles employee who claimed that some stores actually store these items and discard them when they can't get sold instead of offering discounts.
She wrote: 'What a great haul and terrific prices!'
'I think the Coles near me would rather throw it out than mark it down! I’m a merchandiser so I am out the back at several stores and the amount of waste is terrible!'
It's not every day that you come across a bargain like this! It just goes to show that it pays to keep your eyes open when you're out and about – you never know what kind of deals you might find.
If you're looking to maximise your chances of nabbing discounted hauls like this, we have a few tips:
1. Check clearance racks regularly. Stores typically mark things down on a regular schedule, so if you check the clearance racks often, you’re more likely to catch items at a deep discount.
2. Shop in the evenings. We shared a lot of stories about shoppers nabbing items that are marked down when they shop in the evenings. While it was yet to be confirmed by the retailers, many claimed that the cause of this was because store managers frequently offer discounts on products that were probably of lower quality and freshness than when they originally entered the store.
3. Be patient. If you’re really eyeing a particular item, it may take a few markdowns before it reaches the price you’re willing to pay. So, don’t be discouraged if you don’t find the deal you’re looking for right away.
With a little patience and strategic shopping, you can increase your chances of finding those amazing deals. So, next time you’re in the market for something, keep these tips in mind and happy hunting!
