Coalescing Memories

Baby Boomer memories are tomorrow’s precious gems
They speak of simple pleasures of things not seen again.

Like billycarts in cul-de-sacs and mud pies made near creeks
And little girls like mama, pushing dollies along the street.

There were movies at the Prince Edward and Cahill’s Caf’ for a treat,
Their caramel sauce-soaked ice cream, other eateries could not beat.

At home there were no appliances, fire stoves and coppers instead
And prior to the mid-fifties, no TV to watch before bed.

But radio entertained us, ‘Yes, What?’ was an absolute treat
And the sounds of the great Eddie Cantor breathed life into dancing feet.

There were string bags for shopping and tea towels for mopping the dishes we washed with our hands
And on every street corner was a paper boy callin’ ‘Read All About it my man”

So the memories make stories embedded with glories of moments so special gone by.
They’re the moments that ground us, as we age they’ll surround us
With the laughter and joy they supply
