Cliff Young
Do you remember Cliff Young? He’s the 61-year-old farmer from Beech Forest, Victoria, who won the Sydney to Melbourne Ultra-marathon in 1983 by running the entire distance in his gumboots! Young trained by running around his farm, and his lack of experience didn’t stop him from crossing the finish line first. His story captured the hearts of Australians, and he became an overnight sensation. He passed away in 2003, but his legacy lives on.
