Child Endowment
Who remembers the days when the government paid you for having children? Well, in Australia in 1941, that was a reality for many families. The Child Endowment scheme was introduced as a way to help families with the cost of raising children. For each child under the age of 16, families would receive 5 shillings per week. Back in the day, almost all families relied on a single income, so the monthly endowment payment helped make ends meet.
