Cheers to Victory! How VB is Celebrating Australia's Ashes Win Over England

In the spirit of friendly rivalry, Australia's renowned beer company, Carlton United Breweries (CUB), took a playful jab at the English cricket team.

Following Australia's Ashes victory, CUB has decided to celebrate with a new beer—an England Bitter. Yes, you read that right. Aussie cheekiness wrapped in a bottle!

CUB concocted its tongue-in-cheek 'England Bitter' following England's contentious loss in the second Ashes test.

So, when England's cricket coach, Brendon McCullum, commented that they wouldn't be sharing a beer with their Aussie opponents anytime soon, CUB stepped up to the crease with a typically Aussie response. You can read more about this here.

The English team at Headingley was then freighted with a plane full of the special-edition beer.

The green-labelled bottles—a clear nod to our very own VB—made their way to the English team with a cheery note that tweaked the iconic VB jingle.

'You can get it not protecting your stumps. You can get it ignoring the umps,' the note read.

Free T-shirts with the England Bitter logo were also given to Aussie fans at the match.

Who can resist an Aussie prank paired with a wearable souvenir, right?

In response to 'massive public demand', CUB recently disclosed that 'England Bitter' will be available locally. We Aussies seem to enjoy a good chuckle as much as we enjoy a cold one!

CUB spokesman Marc Lord said, 'The response from the Australian public was amazing. The England Bitter campaign reflected the pulse of the nation, so what better way to say “cheers” to retaining the trophy than with an England Bitter.'

This campaign received international coverage when England Bitter was dispatched to console the English team on their second test loss, positioning Australia for a 2-0 series lead.

The reaction was as animated as expected.

Jonny Bairstow’s controversial dismissal in the Lord’s Test caused a furore, with England accusing Australia of poor sportsmanship.

Believe it or not, even heads of state are involved. Aussie PM Anthony Albanese backed his boys, telling Bairstow to 'harden up' over the loss.

British PM Rishi Sunak didn’t mince words either, remarking through a spokesperson that he wouldn’t wish to win a game in Australia’s style.

In a playful twist for us, get ready to spot a limited run of 30,000 cases of England Bitter gracing the shelves of our local bottle shops soon.

A fine way to celebrate an Ashes victory, don’t you think?

More than just a jibe, the England Bitter brew represents the Aussie spirit of friendly rivalry and embodies a quintessential part of our culture.

Beer, a favourite national beverage, is a cornerstone of social gatherings, especially sports celebrations, and serves to unite people in cheer and good-natured banter.

So, fellow members, it's time to raise a toast as we celebrate this piece of Ashes history.

However, let’s not forget the spirit of sportsmanship amongst the jest.

As CUB spokesman Marc Lord said, 'We hope both teams can share a nice England Bitter in the changing rooms, without any bitterness. We’ll even throw in the ice, so the players don’t have to drink it warm.'
