However, the integrity of this momentous occasion has been called into question by a series of allegations published in the Liberation newspaper, suggesting that Dion's performance was not live but pre-recorded.

Music industry experts, including composer and performer Etienne Guéreau, have weighed in, with Guéreau stating, 'What we heard on TV was a corrected playback.'

A sound engineer supported these claims, asserting, 'It was 100 per cent playback, you can hear it from the first notes.'



The Paris 2024 organisers have remained tight-lipped about these allegations despite previous assurances that Dion's performance was indeed live.

The controversy has not been limited to industry insiders. Social media has been abuzz with reactions from fans who had initially praised Dion's performance.

‘OK I’m proper emotional at Celine’s performance, just wow,’ one fan expressed.

‘Queen Celine is back, and she sounds fantastic,’ another said.

Approximately 104,000 people purchased tickets to witness the Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony live, with premium seats fetching upwards of $4,800.



Despite the controversy, Dion's performance has been released on various streaming platforms as a 'live' recording, announcing its availability on social media sites, quoting Edith Piaf's words to her lover, Marcel Cerdan.

‘God brings together those who love each other,’ Dion announced.

French President Emmanuel Macron even spoke of the performance as the 'biggest emotion' of the Olympics.
