It's not every day that we get to rub shoulders with A-list celebrities. However, for Channel 7's Sam Mac, mingling with stars was part of his experience at the recent wedding of Australian Olympic medallist Scotty James and Chloe Stroll, the daughter of Formula One billionaire Lawrence Stroll.

Sunrise weather presenter Sam Mac was among the lucky guests invited to the lavish wedding held in Italy, which boasted a guest list full of high-profile attendees, including Hollywood stars and our very own Aussie Formula One driver Daniel Ricciardo.





Now, in some circles, a wedding can be a rather formal affair, but our Aussie celebs know how to keep things light-hearted. A 'hilarious moment' involving Sam Mac and Daniel Ricciardo unfolded in a tightly packed lift— and it was all caught on camera.

As Sam Mac, Ricciardo, and other guests, including Chloe's brother and F1 driver Lance Stroll, were standing together in the lift, Ricciardo had the bright idea to take a selfie. 'Was buzzing for this lift selfie...,' Mac shared moments before Daniel began counting down, and everyone in the lift looked upward towards the glass ceiling.



While it seemed all fun and games, the mischievous Ricciardo appeared to have played a sneaky trick on Sam Mac, who was left puzzled and somewhat unimpressed when the final picture was revealed. Shockingly, poor Mac was almost completely missing from the photo, with only his chin making the cut.

'Til @danielricciardo did me dirty,' Mac captioned the second part, dubbing the image 'chinstagram' as he zoomed in on his barely-visible chin.

Despite this cheeky prank, the wedding appeared to be a joyous and memorable occasion, with Sam Mac describing the event as a 'true honour' to share with Scotty James and Chloe Stroll.



‘So happy for you, mate. A true honour to share this special time with you and Chloe ... wow wow wow,' Mac wrote after the event.

The Sunrise weather presenter shared a unique connection with the newlyweds, as his partner and the mother of his child, Rebecca, is the sister of Scotty James. Expressing her happiness, Rebecca wrote, 'I officially have another sister,' following the wedding, to which Chloe replied, 'Love you sis!!!'

Not only was the wedding a chance for Sam Mac to support his partner's family, but it also allowed him to finally meet Scotty James in person after dating Rebecca since late 2020. Before the wedding, James jokingly warned Mac that he'd need to deliver some accurate weather forecasts before he'd be wholly welcomed into the family.



'Sam's acceptance is on the line here,' James quipped on Sunrise.

While Sam Mac's chin was ‘done dirty’ by Daniel Ricciardo in that now-infamous lift selfie, the event was a success for all involved. As our SDC members will know, you can't beat a good wedding—even if the company can sometimes be a bit cheeky!
