The conversation around this unlikely hero of the campsite kitchen was sparked by a content creator known as Oh So Busy Mum, who shared her enthusiasm for the product online. The response was overwhelming, with over a thousand comments pouring in, revealing a community of canned potato enthusiasts who appreciate the convenience and taste of this simple foodstuff.

Canned potatoes, pre-cooked and ready-to-eat, are a dream come true for those who want to enjoy a hearty meal without the fuss. They don't require refrigeration, a godsend when fridge space is at a premium, and they're incredibly easy to store. But the real magic happens when these tinned spuds are transformed into a delicious dish with just a few additional ingredients and a bit of culinary creativity.

One popular method among campers is to toss the potatoes onto the BBQ with a sprinkle of salt, pepper, oil, and garlic, resulting in a crispy and satisfying side dish. Others prefer to nestle the open can in the coals until the water evaporates, creating a smoky, tender treat. The versatility of canned potatoes means they can be used in various recipes, from a simple potato salad to a more elaborate campfire feast with steak and mushroom sauce.

The suggestions for how to enjoy these canned delights are as varied as the landscapes you might traverse in your caravan. Some adventurous cooks recommend smashing them in muffin tins with cheese, garlic, and bacon, while others suggest frying them up with a medley of vegetables and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. The possibilities are endless, and the ease of preparation is a boon for those who want to spend more time exploring and cooking less.

However, it's important to heed the advice of seasoned canned potato fans and the warning on the can itself: do not attempt to heat them in the microwave. This can lead to a messy explosion and an hour spent cleaning up the aftermath. Stick to the BBQ, campfire, or stovetop for the best results.

As we embrace the convenience of modern camping and caravanning, it's heartening to see how a simple $2 item can enhance the experience. Whether you're a seasoned traveller or planning your first caravan adventure, consider adding canned potatoes to your shopping list. They might just become your new favourite camping companion.

These potatoes have a bit of a strange taste due to fluid they are in.
I use Woollies canned potatoes in potato salad. I rinse them under hot water a lot to get that smell off them before using. Also, the potatoes being the perfect size, l use an egg slicer so there's no mushy slices.
I've tried both Woollies & Coles & find Woollies are so much better. The potatoes are more solid & taste better. Once opened, one Coles can had all tiny potatoes that couldn't be used let alone sliced & l found the medium sized ones were darker in colour & water logged.

I much prefer Woolies potato mash in the plastic tubs.....add just some butter and throw them straight into the microwave......easy as, and they taste great....you can even get the little microwave plastic pouches of gravy from Gravox...they have a great range and just give the spuds that little added taste factor....45 seconds and its all so good and quick with little to no mess.....SIMPLES.😋

How good is it huh! I always added more butter 😁 Do you remember when they had the cheesy mash? Tasted the best👌 On bad health days l'd grab a tub to save me cooking time. When l went to zap it l noticed it was cheese mash. It was soo yummy & after my 1st taste, l made sure l grabbed the cheesy tub. Then it disappeared & wasn't coming back so l always grated cheese & added it to the plain mash 😋😋
