Car toll scam
Watch out for any SMS purporting to be from Linkt or other toll company about a recent trip not being registered. You are asked to go to a site to pay. This is a scam. The toll companies do not send out bills in this way. Delete the SMS immediately. If you owe money for unpaid tolls, you will receive a notice in the mail. If in doubt, call the toll company concerned.
With Christmas coming, the "Australia Post" scams we have seen before will no doubt increase. If you get an SMS or email notice saying the postage was not fully paid on an item delivered to you and giving you a link to a website to pay, this is a scam. If the notice says the parcel is being held pending payment online, this is another scam. Do not pay anything online. If in doubt, go to your post office and ask about the notice.
Be careful of fake charity requests at this time of year. Do not click on any links to "charities" who contact you by SMS or email. If you would like to make a donation, go to the official website for the charity or call their published number.
Remember that the point of these scams is to get you to enter your banking details online. Delete any SMS or email that asks you to click on a link or enter your banking details. If these creeps get your details, they can use them to clean out your accounts. Once your money is gone, it's gone for good. Be safe, be smart, be alert.
