Camping during winter can feel like punishment—this $89 Kmart fix changes that

Winter has well and truly arrived, and for many Australians, that means braving the cold for outdoor events, hobbies or family commitments.

But one popular retailer may have just released a clever solution that’s turning heads—and warming hands.

This could change how you face the chilly season outdoors.

The budget retailer unveiled its Heatpack Chair, and it quickly became the talk of social media. Designed to make winter outings a little more bearable, the $89 chair promised to bring a bit of luxury to your camping setup or weekend sporting ritual.

Kmart described it as a chair featuring ‘intelligent heating technology and practical design elements’. They added: ‘This chair offers added convenience and ultimate cosiness—a great addition to your camping accessories.’

And it wasn’t just the warmth factor turning heads. Weighing about 5kg and supporting up to 130kg, the chair included a carry strap, padded cushioning, a cup holder, and even a phone pocket—ticking just about every box for comfort.

To get it toasty, users simply needed to plug in a power bank. The chair was powered by two USB-A ports—one for the seat and one for the back.

Compared to a similar heated Moon Chair, which usually retailed for $179 and was on sale for $152.15, Kmart’s option offered serious bang for buck.

On social media, shoppers didn’t hold back.

‘Tried this chair & my powerbank wasn't powerful enough to keep it going very long but when it was on it was lovely and warm, and I also found it very comfy to sit on so for me its a 10 out of 10,’ one person shared.

Another user simply wrote: ‘What an idea!’

‘Oh my wish list is getting bigger and bigger,’ said one. ‘I will be banned from looking at these posts soon.’

‘OMG I need one in my camping life,’ another added.

Some saw potential uses beyond just camping or sport. ‘Honestly, I think I'd love this for sitting around the house, who's with me?’ one wrote.

And it wasn’t the only winter favourite Kmart shoppers had on their radar.

A shopper named Brittany Laine took to social media to show off another cold-weather win: an oversized crew neck sweatshirt she picked up from the retailer.

‘I wanted to show you this jumper I got from Kmart,’ she said in a video. ‘You would never ever have thought this is from Kmart. It was $18—so good.’

The jumper came in black, grey and mauve, and had fans piling on with admiration.

‘Going straight in my basket,’ one shopper said.

‘Well now I need, thank you for your service,’ another wrote.

So if you’ve been freezing your toes off on the sidelines or under the stars, it might be worth looking into Kmart’s heated chair—and maybe even throwing in a cosy jumper for good measure.

As one shopper put it: ‘This is looking super inviting for the winter sport sidelines.’

And for anyone with a furry friend? ‘The dog would love it,’ someone noted.

Because let’s face it—sometimes, comfort really is king.

If you’ve ever spent a night shivering in a tent, you’ll know that staying warm outdoors takes more than just a thick jumper.

For those who still love a weekend getaway or a night under the stars, this video has a few clever tricks to help you rest easy.
