Sydney mum Esther Liu has taken to Facebook to share an easy hack for stacking her children's books on their bookshelf.

The secret trick? Using a file rack as bookends!

"Can’t find the original post but thanks to the poster who had the brilliant idea to use the file rack for cookbooks…they fit perfectly in my kids' bookshelf!" the mum wrote in her post along with a photo of her kids' bookshelf.

"I used to have bookends but the kids are still small and they had trouble pushing the stack of books to put them back. With this, they haven’t got any issues at all and it looks so neat."

The post, shared in a popular Facebook group, gained traction, amassing more than 180 likes and comments from stunned group members.

One person wrote: "This is a brilliant idea!"

"Great idea," another said.

As it turned out, a number of people use file racks for a plethora of purposes other than organising files.

One mum revealed: "I use them for my chopping boards."

"I use these for baking trays in the kitchen," another shared.

Well, it can't be denied that with a little bit of creativity, you can use file racks to organise basically almost anything!

Since we're on the topic of organising books, here are some tips from the SDC team on how to repurpose file racks into stylish and functional book organisers:

1. If you have a large collection of books, opt for a file rack with multiple shelves. This will give you more room to store your books and make it easier to find the one you're looking for.

2. Make use of the dividers in the file rack to create sections for different genres or topics. This will help you keep your books organised and easy to find.

3. Use labels to clearly identify the contents of each section. This will save you time and frustration when you're looking for a specific book.

4. If you have more than one file rack, you can use them to create a library-like atmosphere in your home. Arrange the racks in a way that makes it easy to browse through your collection.

I’m always looking for extra book shelves, this is a brilliant idea.
Enclosed are 2 of my hacks. The top book holder are the left over cardboard from a couple of sets of new sheets and the bottom is an old tool box I found on the side of the road.

Over the past couple of years I have been getting rid of my books as I know the kids don't want to inherit them. I have changed to a kindle which has many benefits, all my favourite books in one small book sized thing and I can change the font size for those annoyingly small print books. I am also listening to more audio books as I can listen whilst doing other things.

I used to have a kindle but have now changed to using the kindle app on my iPad and iPhone. That way I can continue reading on my phone when I get stuck somewhere (doctors rooms,bus stop etc) They are synced so always "tell" me: "you are currently on page ... on your "....". Do you want to go there?" Perfect if you are working and might be called out to take someone to a doctor or so....
