Breaking: Talented Thor and Star Wars actor Ray Stevenson's shocking death at 58

We are saddened to report the tragic and untimely passing of Ray Stevenson, a talented actor known for his memorable roles in Thor, Star Wars, and many other shows and films. Stevenson was only 58 years old when he died while working on a movie in Italy.

Born in Northern Ireland and spending most of his life in England, Stevenson made a significant impact on the big screen throughout his remarkable career. He portrayed Volstagg in the Thor film trilogy and took on the roles of Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, in Punisher: War Zone and Marcus Eaton in the Divergent series. Stevenson's versatility as an actor allowed him to thrive in both action-packed blockbusters and thought-provoking television shows.

While his big-screen achievements are incredible, Stevenson's TV appearances were just as noteworthy. He played a variety of roles in well-known shows like Dexter, Waking The Dead, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and the critically acclaimed HBO series Rome. It was the latter role that had a profound effect on him, as he opened up in a 2020 interview with Backstage:

'At that time, I realised what it was to get out of your own way and trust your instincts, and trust that a lot of your work has been done subconsciously and silently,' he said. 'And also focusing on the career I'm having rather than the career I should be having; it's this moment now and that's all that matters—this moment, this production, the actors around me, the director I'm working with. It's where my life completely changed.'

Stevenson's death occurred while he was filming the action movie Cassino In Ischia on the beautiful Italian island of Ischia. Although the cause of his death remains undisclosed, his US-based publicist firm, Viewpoint, confirmed the sad news with the BBC.

Stevenson's personal life was also filled with love and companionship. Previously married to Bridgerton actress Ruth Gemmell, their union ended in divorce in 2005 after eight years together. Later, Stevenson built a life with his partner Elisabetta Caraccia, with whom he shared a son, Sebastiano, born in 2007.

The world has lost a truly amazing talent, but Ray Stevenson's contributions to the film and television industry will be remembered for generations to come. Ray was not someone I hadn't any knowledge of until he replaced Kevin Spacey in the movie 1242, Gateway to the West. This film greatly interested me for two reasons. The filming was done in Hungary in a castle and they used drones. Totally amazing. Also my favourite actor Michael Ironside is also in it. This says a lot for the producers and organisers of this movie. Michael only takes on roles that not only challenge and but also supports smaller companies doing great things. To see Ray as the replacement in the production speaks volumes to me of his talent and him as a person. I hope they release all three films and dedicate them to Ray for his unwavering dedication to his craft
